Tawney Faye Yonich Heffley 04/10/1945-06/29/2022

Tawney Faye was born in Aberdeen, Washington on April 10th 1945 to Betty Lou Gammon Fisher and Lewis Blaine Fisher. Shortly after she was born, Tawney’s father died in WWII. Betty Lou remarried John Yonich who treated Tawney Faye like one of his own. She went on to graduate from Weatherwax High School in Aberdeen and after high school, she attended Western Washington College in Bellingham where she received a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. Tawney was a driven and focused woman who, according to reports, at the age of 10 started a small school newspaper. She was a part of many clubs and social circles and was liked by everyone she came in contact with. Her most active and lifelong club was a group from high school called the SLUGS with which she kept in very close contact throughout her life, going on many trips to either see the other SLUGS or on weekend trips as a group.

Tawney was a strong leader who knew how to organize, she was committed to making any business she was involved in a success. Throughout her working life, she held leadership positions at multiple retail operations throughout Whatcom County including a clothing buyer for the Golden Rule, manager of the Bellingham Mall, manager at Holly Hobby craft store, manager at Hallmark, LaVe’s, and, later, was an important member of the Assistance League of Bellingham team.

Tawney will be remembered for the love and joy she brought to so many and the lifelong friendships she created. Some of the most memorable times include her organizing and leading the end of summer games at a friend’s property on the Nooksack River, the car shows she and her husband, Fred Heffley, would attend, and the energy and love she brought to her volunteering at the Assistance League of Bellingham, the road trips her and her close friends would take throughout the years, making cookies with her grandchildren, and her love for entertaining.

Tawney is preceded in death by her mother Betty Lou, and father Blaine, her sister Jonnie Cummings, and her brother David Yonich. Surviving her are her husband Fred Heffley, sister Cherie Anne Yonich, brother Michael Yonich, sons Joseph Lupo (Peggy) and Jesse Brooks (Mandy), grandchildren Taylor and Addie Lupo, Jackson, Morgan, and Ellie Brooks, nieces Jillian Cummings, Sarah Yonich, and nephews Josh, Jason, and Jacob Cummings, as well as many friends throughout Whatcom County, Grays Harbor County and beyond. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Tawney’s name to the Assistance League of Bellingham.

Goodbye Mom, we love you and will do the best we can to live life to the fullest as you so selflessly taught us!
