Obituary of Joel Frederick Tibbetts

Joel F. Tibbetts (age 85) entered into rest on February 17, 2022, in Bellingham. He was born on October 1, 1936, in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts which is a neighborhood in Boston to James E and Mary P (Mahn) Tibbetts. Joel attended Natick High School in Natick, MA, and graduated in 1956. After high school, he received his BS from UNLV University in Las Vegas, Nevada, and continued his education at Golden Gate University in San Francisco receiving his MBS. Following his high school graduation, Joel enlisted in the US Navy. He worked his way up through the ranks and retired in 1980 at a Lt Cmdr. After his military career, he worked for Saga/Marriot Corp as a Dist. Manager of the West Coast working in Health Care Hospitality from 1980 until his retirement in 1999. In 1957, Joel married Eileen J. Lynch in London, England while he was serving his county abroad. Joel excelled as a track and field star, receiving many awards. He was an avid fisherman, loved a good game of poker, and golf. In his pastime, he loved cooking gourmet foods, studying history, traveling, and a good glass of wine. Joel will be most remembered for his loyalty, generosity, great sense of humor, his enjoyment of traveling, education, and his strong patriotic drive. Joel is survived by his son, Mark W. (Julie) Tibbetts of Corvallis, Oregon; daughter, Carey J. Tibbetts (partner Glenn) of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren, Jarrid R.J, Jacob, Devery J.K. Jacob-Martin, and Dylan P.D. Tibbetts; one great-grandchild, Levi Jacob Martin; sister-in-laws, Sharon Tibbetts and Wilma Tibbettsand, and many adored nieces and nephews along with several cousins on the east coast. Joel is preceded in death by his wife, Eileen in 2000 and three brothers, Richard, James, and Robert Tibbetts. As per Joel’s wishes, he didn’t want a funeral ceremony but to have his remains scattered at sea and a small family gathering.
