Edward (Ed) L. Gulliksen passed away Thursday, July 29, 2021. Ed is preceded in death by his wife Karen Ann Gulliksen (Loescher), his granddaughter Abby Elizabeth Mohon, and his grandson Michael John Waltari. He was born on September 9, 1938 in Vancouver, BC to Lars and Mabel Gulliksen. He is survived by his daughters Dana (Brian) Bottemiller, and Magan (Chad) Waltari, granddaughters Amanda and Tyler, grandsons Nick, Bailey, and Nathan. Ed is also survived by brother Les, sister Loretta, and nephews Richard and Ryan. Ed joined the Army in 1957 and would later join the Navy where he served out of San Diego until 1978. In the Navy, Ed served as a signalman on LST boats during Vietnam as well as what is known as the Brown Water Navy, evacuating Vietnamese refugees. After his retirement from the Navy, Ed and Karen moved to Whatcom County where he worked for Barron Heating before finally retiring for good. Ed was an active member in the American Legion Post 7, serving on various committees like Honor Guard and in various positions including Post Commander. Every Friday morning he could be found at the Post enjoying coffee, doughnuts and fellowship with his friends. Ed belonged to St. Paul’s Episcopalian Church and was a member of the Alms committee. The funeral service and military honors will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA on Friday, September 24th, 2021 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Legion Post #7.
