I miss you Dad. I could really use you to just come back home. You are so deeply loved and missed by so many. Everyday I want to call you just to hear your voice. I will never delete your old voicemails, I will never stop missing you and I will forever and always love you!

Your father was a very special person. When Uncle Art fell ill I came up for a visit and your father came to meet me. There is a 7 year age difference between us and when you are a younger it feels like miles a part.
But as time marches on those differences no longer hold true and you find you have more in common then you could ever imagine. I loved that visit and I loved getting to know your father better and found we had a lot in common.
I will always have such fond memories of that day and wished we had more time. I could tell right away his deep love for his wife and his family. He was very proud of you all and he loved his family with his whole heart.
My deepest sympathies for your loss of such a wonderful Soul. Love Linda

Thank you so much Linda for sharing. It means a lot to me and the rest of the family. He was an amazing man and his loss has been devastating. I personally feel like he was the other half of my soul and I miss him so much every single day. There never would have been a good time, but he was taken away much too early.
Much Love, Ali

We moved into the neighborhood when our boys were small and Barry was quick to introduce them to sweet Maggie on their evening walks. We also called him the neighborhood greeter - with eyes in the back of his head - because even while mowing the lawn and his back to you, there was always a friendly wave as we drove up the street. Our condolences to you all.

Thank you Chris and Erin for the memories! He truly loved his neighborhood and all his neighbors. He was the friendliest man I’ve ever known. We miss him every single day, and are thankful he was in our lives for the short time we were blessed with him.
Sincerely, Ali

In memory of my Father today, my mom and I went down to Taylor Shellfish Farms and bought 4 huge crabs. We came home and made crab on a muffin- one of my Dad’s all time favorites. We miss you every minute of every day and we love you so much Dad!

Dear Joan and family, It is with much sorrow that I saw Barry's passing. I sold "Maggie" the Rottweiler to you many years ago. I attended your dads funeral and since you were very busy with family and others I just left you a card and a note. You sent me a sweet note with a picture of Maggie and I still had it to this day. I went to Adels file, her mother and pulled it out. I no longer breed dogs but continued to own more Rottys, just losing our 5th several years ago. We are retired now but do plan on one more Rotty in the new future. Barrys obituary was very lovely written, I assume from your children. You must be very proud. Again, so sorry for your loss and our sympathy and prayers are sent your way. God Bless. Love, Denny and Judy Stageberg.JABtD

Thank you Judy. Maggie was like a third child to my dad. Losing her was crushing for my dad and the entire family. He went on to have one more, a sneaky move made by my godmother who found a stray (and ultimately a blessing), Cajun. Thank you for your memories. My dad was incredibly loving and both of those Rottweilers were additions to our family like another child. ❤️

Thank you Elaine. Those are great photos. He truly did live life to the fullest, more than anyone I knew. He made a positive impression with everyone he interacted with- he was alway just so outgoing and friendly. I really admired that about him. We are all in shock still and I miss him every minute of the day.
Thank you for sharing your memory!

Thank you Frank for your beautiful comments. He was taken much too soon for sure!!! He was an amazing man, father, husband, friend, neighbor, teacher, skier, kayaker....the list just goes on. Life certainly isn’t fair, but I try to be thankful for the fact that he was in my life for 38 years.
Thanks again for sharing,
Ali

I knew Barry from high school. We were in the same class. Having left the Northwest after college, I had not seen Barry for close to 50 years...But, here’s what I remember well.
During my senior year in high school, I was lucky to hang-out some with Barry and Mark Jones. Unlike most of their peers (myself included) they did not try to be the elusive ‘cool’ or somebody other than who they were. Instead, they were always Authentic... comfortable with who they were.
I hung-out with Barry & Mark because I admired & respected them...and as lagniappe, because they were professionals at having Huge Fun.
It has been said: “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” It’s obvious that Barry always understood this. R.I.P..

Please make any donations to the Whatcom Humane Society Wildlife Center as opposed to planting a tree or sending flowers. He loved the wildlife and that is what he would have wanted to continue to support. Thank you so much!!!
