Obituary of Larry E Roberts

Larry Elston Roberts longtime Ferndale resident Born December 15, 1948 to Ivo and Lillian Roberts (Dunkin), passed away peacefully on April 22, 2020. Larry grew up in Blaine Washington where he enjoyed farm life. He attended Blaine school from elementary to high school graduation in 1968. Larry attended Bellingham Technical College; once certified he worked briefly for Whatcom County Roads before finding long term employment through the Blaine School District first as a groundskeeper then moving into the custodial role. Larry retired after 32 years of service. Larry had many hobbies and could be found puttering in his garage building engines or repairing engine parts or restoring farm equipment. His prize project, a fully restored antique Minneapolis Moline 5-Star tractor. He participated in the Puget Sound Antique Tractor & Machinery association. He took pride in driving his 'Minnie' in parades or pulling it in the antique tractor pull competitions at Berthusen Park and the Northwest Washington Fair.Also an avid gardener, Larry produced a yearly crop of corn for his family, neighbors and friends. Fishing was another hobby though he never cared for the taste. Larry never had children of his own but fully participated in the raising of his two nieces. Larry provided fatherly advise and taught valued life skills such as: teaching both girls how to drive a standard, how to maintain their vehicle from oil changes to tire rotation. Larry was there for all the milestones including giving each of his nieces away in their respective weddings.He was a Great uncle to four grand nieces and a grand nephew, Larry was always present for every birthday and family holiday with treats and 'Sodi-Pop' to spoil our minions. Christmas was his favorite time of year he took his grand nieces and nephew on their first Christmas light tour of the county having already pre-planned where we would drive to in order to show off the wonders of Christmas. Larry is survived by his sister Iva Mae Campfield, nieces: Kathleen Campfield (Whitney, Truth), Kelly Cissell and husband Dustin (Shea, Damian, Kylee). We will be having a memorial at a later date when it is save for all to gather.
