Obituary of Gary Lee Abel

Gary L. Abel (age 77) born on 1/26/1943 in Bellingham, WA to Nathan C. and Mabel A. (Streubel) Abel. Gary entered into rest on 4/21/2020 after a brief illness of cancer. He attended and graduated from Blaine High School in 1962 and entered the Army following graduation. He served his country from 1963-1967 and was honorably discharged as E5. He was awarded the sharpshooter (rifle) and National Defense Service Medal. Gary was a member of the American Legion, enjoyed Hot Rod car restoration, gardening and wrestling. During his working career, he worked as a welder, building boats and crab pots for the fishing industry. He will always be remembered by his wife Vicky for “her” saying … “muscle, steel and sex appeal” that’s what my beloved’s made of. Gary has been together with Vicky since 1985 and they got married on June 15, 2000 in Coeur d’Alene, ID. He is survived by his wife, Vicky of Custer, WA; sons, Gary L. Abel Jr. of Arlington, WA and Victor A.C. Whalen (stepson) of Centralia, WA; daughters, Christine A. Abel of Longview, WA and Katherine L. Abel of Bellingham, WA; brothers, Ray A. Rogers of Wrangell, Alaska and Dan Abel of Lewiston, ID; sisters, Loretta J. Ogden of Blaine, WA, Susan M. Kanitz of Bellingham, WA and Dianne Dana of Barstow, CA; five grandchildren. Gary is preceded in death by his sister, Luwana Abel; stepdads, Allen M. Rogers and Melvin (Bud) Mosher. At this time, there will be no services held due to current pandemic.
