Obituary of Ralph N Martenson

Ralph Martenson, 73—also known as Crowbar, Marty and Mardoo—passed away on January 29, 2020 in Bellingham, Washington. Ralph was born on April 21, 1946 in Seattle to Virginia and Eric Martenson. He was a loving husband to Carol for 52 years, and a dedicated father to son, Chance, and daughter, Jennifer. After serving in the elite US Army Honor Guard Drill Team for two years, he went to work for United Airlines as a baggage handler. Over a 35-year career, which led him to Chicago, Alaska, Hawaii, San Francisco and ultimately back home to Seattle, he worked his way up to become the General Manager of the United operation at Sea-Tac airport. Ralph and Carol retired to beautiful Birch Bay, Wa in 2005 where he enjoyed many healthy years pursuing his hobbies. He was a life-long skier, until his second knee replacement kept him permanently off the slopes. He continued as an avid golfer, and his talent as a gardener was often noted by neighbors and passersby. Ralph is survived by his wife, two children, brother Norman and family, and many good friends drawn by his kindness and playful sense of humor. A celebration of Ralph’s life is planned for 3PM, April 25 at the Semiahmoo Country Club in Blaine Washington.
