Obituary of Charles Speers

Charles R. Speers, age 81, of Bellingham passed away on Monday, November 5, 2007. Charles was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 1925 in Rulo, Nebraska to John and Mary Speers. Charles was the youngest of twenty children. Following his High School Graduation, Charles enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 and served as a Gunners Mate in the South Pacific. In the years to follow, Charles married Clara M. Miller also from Rulo, Nebraska and settled down to raise two sons Richard and Daniel. In 1955 he started a 20-year career in the US Border Patrol taking him from Texas to N. Dakota and settling in Blaine, Washington in 1962. With his retirement in 1975, he was able to fully enjoy his favorite activities of Cattle ranching, gardening, RVing, and Radio Control plane building and crashing. Charles is survived by Clara, his wife of 59 years, son Richard and wife Sandy of Custer, Washington; son Daniel and wife Terry of Stockton, California; grandchildren, Nicki, Lisa, Christopher, Stefanie and great grandchildren Jaden, Corey, Zachary, Logan, and Shawn. Also by a brother Sherman Speers of Wildwood, Illinois and Sisters Alice Weinert of Falls City, Nebraska; Nellie Futscher of Downey, California and Gertie Maze of Falls City, Nebraska. Charles enjoyed spending time with his Grand Children and Great Grand Children. Memorial services will be held at the Jerns Funeral Chapel, 800 E. Sunset Dr, Bellingham, WA at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 12, 2007 with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at the Haynie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Mt. Baker Kidney Center. Arrangements entrusted to Jerns Funeral Chapel 800 E. Sunset Dr. Bellingham.
