Obituary of Ramon Darley

Ramon Thomas "Tom" Darley (age 86) entered into rest surrounded by his family on August 11, 2012 in Custer, WA. Tom was born on Sept. 17, 1925 in Byers, CO to Carrol B. and Mable E. (Fellows) Darley. He graduated from Byers High School in 1940 and immediately enlisted into the Navy and served his country from 1940 until 1943. After leaving the military, Tom married the love of his life, Rosemary (Parks) Darley. On December 14, 1952 in Denver, CO Rosemary gave birth to their son Brad. After the birth of their son, Tom applied and was accepted in the Academy (Boarder Patrol); graduating first in his class in El Paso, TX. After his graduation, he worked in Ysletta, TX for the Border Patrol. During his career, Tom traveled and work across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada as an Intelligence Officer. His career finally brought him to Blaine where Tom retired from the Border Patrol. Tom continued working with the Whatcom County Sheriffs Dept. and as a security officer on Mt. Baker Ski Resort. The family still lives in the same home which is on the historic registry. Later in life, Tom and Rosemary purchased property in Eastern Washington where the family built a cabin together. One of Tom's great getaways during his retirement was the Sonora Desert, where he volunteered to help take pictures of pictographs with the geographical society. Tom had many loves, which were the outdoors and his great appreciation for nature. Tom had many hobbies, some of which were skiing, climbing, backpacking, fishing, and hunting. He was an avid reader of Western Novel and history, played piano and wrote poetry. His interest in world politics and the universe was a lasting love of his. He leaves behind the love of his life; his wife, Rosemary Darley; brother Michael Darley of Arizona; one grandson, Hunter Thomas Darley Klug. He is preceded in death by his son, Bradford Thomas Darley. Burial will be held at Byers Community Cemetery in Byers, CO. Memorial contributions may be given in Tom's name to Whatcom Hospice and the Blaine Library.
