

Obituary of Dorothy A Filbert
Dorothy A. Filbert of Bellingham passed away on August 16, 2018 at the age of 98. Dorothy was born in Bellingham (Fairhaven), Washington on August 8, 1920 to Paul and Elizabeth (Beyers) Duppenthaler. She lived in Seattle and worked for Boeing as “Dorothy the Riveter” during World War II, obtained her nursing degree at Skagit Valley College in 1963, and worked at various other jobs. Dorothy lived most of her life in Skagit County, marrying January 22, 1940 and building a home in Birdsview, WA. In 1989 she moved to James Street Estates in Bellingham and has resided the last 6 ½ years at Highgate Senior Living. Dorothy was an avid fisherwoman, snowmobiler, horseback rider and camper in the hills and mountains of Skagit. She loved working in her garden, growing vegetables and flowers, painting and watching the Seattle Mariners. Dorothy is survived by one sister, Janette Burnett of Bellingham, sister-in-law Lola Johnson of Birdsview, WA, sister-in-law Maxine Johnson of Colville, WA and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Gertrude Everdell, Arlene Watkins, Mildred Longeway, Phyllis Kruger and brothers Howard Johnson and Edward Johnson. At her request, there will be no services. Memorials can be made to the Whatcom or Skagit County Humane Society, Whatcom Hospice or a favorite charity.
