TO DEAR DIANE AND FAMILY,
HOW SAD I WAS TO HEAR OF BILL’S PASSING. AS YOU KNOW I LOST THE LOVE OF MY LIFE BERND ONLY 4 YEARS AGO, SO WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH IS VERY FRESH IN MY MIND AND HEART.
I’M SURE MANY OF YOUR FRIENDS KNEW YOU BETTER THAN WE DID, BUT THE MEMORIES WE SHARED ON OUR 2006 DANUBE CRUISE WILL LAST FOREVER.
ON THAT CRUISE MY HUSBAND AND I WERE CELEBRATING OUR 30TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, AND I BELIEVE FOR DIANE AND BILL IT WAS ALSO A SPECIAL DATE.
FROM THE MOMENT THE 4 OF US ATE OUR FIRST DINNER TOGETHER, IT WAS AS IF WE HAD KNOW EACH OTHER FOR YEARS.
WE JUST HAD SO MUCH FUN TOGETHER, AND ONE MEMORY REALLY STANDS OUT.
IT WAS NEW YEARS EVE AND OUR SHIP WAS IN VIENNA. THE FOUR OF US WENT ON A VERY FANCY BLACK TIE EVENT FOR THE EVENING—DIANNE AND I IN FULL LENGTH BALL GOWNS AND THE MEN DRESSED TO THE NINES. WE WERE PICKED UP BY A HORSE AND CARRIAGE AT OUR SHIP AND TAKEN TO A CASTLE IN VIENNA FOR THE NEW YEARS DINNER. WE WERE ENTERTAINED BY A CLASSICAL BALLET, AND A QUARTET, ALL DRESSED IN PERIOD COSTUMES. FOLLOWING OUR 7 COURSE DINNER AT MIDNIGHT, THE IRON WINDOWS OF OUR TURRET WERE THROWN OPEN TO THE COBBLE STONE SQUARE BELOW, AND THE THE CHURCH BELLS ARE RANG OUT IN UNISON!! A SPECTACULAR ENTRANCE FOR THE NEW YEAR.
THE FOUR OF US STAYED IN TOUCH OVER THE YEARS MOSTLY BY EMAIL AND PHONE.
HOWEVER, BILL AND DIANNE VISITED US ONCE AT OUR HOME IN WEST VANCOUVER FOR A VERY FUN AFTERNOON BBQ ON OUR DECK, WHERE WE ALL HAD FAR TOO MUCH BEER. I HAVE A GREAT SMALL VIDEO OF THAT DAY WHICH I WILL FIND AND FORWARD TO DIANE.
MY HOPE IS THAT DIANE AND I WILL CONTINUE TO STAY IN TOUCH FOR MANY MORE YEARS.
LOVE
PAMELA

I always loved Uncle Bill. He was the glue of his family. Always looking out for his sisters and brothers--from a young age. He and Auntie Di visited whenever they were in the Okanagan and was always looking for his sister Audies (my mom) apple pie. He kept up on the family events and always, always cared what the gang was up to.
I'll miss your smile and infectious laugh Uncle Bill. Rest easy and don't worry we'll take good care of Audie.
Love always Laurie & Jannie xoxo

I have many fond memories of my ‘Uncle Obie’ and one I will never forget was when I moved to Vancouver in ’73 and needed help with any and every problem I might have with my old car. Bill was the first person I called and he always showed up to check it out and give me the advice I needed ~ as well as get rid of our dead mice ~ but that’s another story. Bill, you were part of my life for 63 years and now there’s a big hole in my heart that your visits used to fill. I didn’t see you often over the last few years, but always so enjoyed the time we spent together. Stay well wherever you are and I hope that are paths cross again when the time comes. Love you Lots Uncle Obie!

For almost 5 years until Bill and Herbert family moved to the U.S., I've had the (mis)fortune of having my office located in between Bill Herbert and another (very loud) colleague, under their constant barrage of verbal exchanges when they're in our then MetLife office. I can therefore say that I've known Bill fairly well as a result.
As a top producer Bill always had his own full-time "sexsytary" as he put it politically incorrectly almost 40 years ago, and he'd encourage us lessor producers to achieve what he did, so that we won't have to bicker about how to share our 1/2 or 1/3 entitlement to clerical assistance with other colleagues.
Bill was very fond of his collection of Oldsmobile Toronado. Besides taking us for a spin, from time to time he'll proudly display his traffic ticket collection for failing to outrun the "smokies" as he refer the police.
The first and only time I flew with Bill in his plane, we're 4,000 ft. over Oliver Airport runway when Bill deliberately stalled the plane for a few seconds before restarting and landing the plane; to this day I couldn't recall if or what we had for lunch that day. A 3rd passenger, then MetLife Regional VP asked if that's how Bill got even with him for all what he did for Bill.
Well Bill, my larger than life colleague, mentor, and friend, RIP.

There are many things & events I can recall
About/with Bros. Bill. One of my favorites, whilst in the O&G biz in TX. My Partner John Wood, true TX Oilman, owned a King Air plane
Which Bill got to know the Pilot, Johnny Paycheck. We were going from YVR to April Point, beyond Pender Isl. Well Johnny let Bill
Fly & land the King Air there & the next day back to YVR the following day, while our crew
Went salmon fishing.
Bill bragged about that event forever ! Love & miss Him, Bros Jim

I remember as a kid when we were told we were going to spend the day at Uncle Bill and Auntie Diane’s house in Richmond, we knew it would be a fun day and my parents knew it would be a long day because we would never want to leave! Years later he would love to talk and show Martino and I the RV and the little bug!
Special memories to have. He will be missed, and always hold a place in our hearts❤️

What an incredible man and an incredible life! Bill is an inspiration to me in my adventures and my relationships. He always looked right into my eyes and cut to the heart of the matter...he operated from his heart and raised wonderful children who do the same; showing others by example that no matter what our differences, we are all deserving of love and respect. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to know him in his later years. His legacy is palpable, and I look forward to celebrating his life and hearing more wonderful stories from his friends and family!

The passing of Bill is leaves another hole in my heart that will never heal. I have known Bill since I was 15 years old, he was married to my lifelong best friend and we have shared many memories and adventures together over the years. He was a family man in every sense of the word and even though we weren't related he made so many of us part of his family. Rest in peace my dear friend.

Bill was a strong, universally loved and respected man. I only knew him for a short while but his impression on me was powerful. Hearing stories of his full, crazy and eventful life, seeing how much everybody who knew him loved him so much. Family events will never be the same without his personality and presence. He will be immeasurably missed.

Bill was my oldest step-brother - although, he hated the "step" business and always referred to me as his "sister"! We always made a point of keeping in touch with one another. Family was #one with Bill. My husband, Ken & I were fortunate to go on a couple trips with Bill & Di and we will treasure those special times forever!
Cheers Brother - love you!❤️

Bill was a true friend - my memory is of Bill on the "Tiger Cruise" on the Aircraft Carrier Carl Vinson from Hawaii to San Diego CA. . Bill and his brother Ken were my "Tigers". During the course of the first full day on board, I found the " Herbert boys" or the "Master Chiefs tigers " in restricted engineering ( Nuclear) , in the XO's (Excutive Officer's Cabin) ,Out on the LSO platform, and ,during the course of the next two weeks, many of the young fighter pilots quiered as to his location . Seems they enjoyed his banter and sharing stories with him. Bill was my friend, I shall miss him

One of my VERY most memorable moments with Bill, when we wanted to join you for dinner or fun time and BAC responsibilities kept my fingers "glued" to the computer, he would always tell me he understood and repeat a favorite quotation: "“If it is to be, it is up to me.” I'll always love him for those special words and understanding. God Speed, Bill, your are in His Hands! Our love to you, Diane, and your family and friends, Wally & Iris

“THIRSTY THURSDAY’S”. Cocktails on the driveway waiting for Diane to come home from work, often lasting into the dinner hour and on to listening to old ‘45’s’... and maybe another cocktail or bottle of wine! Such sweet memories and special times❤️

One of my fondest memories of Bill was him always wanting to fly me over from the island or fly me back home. The problem, I was petrified of small planes. He knew it but was pretty insistent, saying it was the safest way to travel and he always won. I had a couple interesting experiences in that plane. I tell you brother dear if you were still here with your plane I would welcome those flights in a heartbeat instead of the good old "BC Ferries". Miss you Bill, may you rest in peace. Love you xoxo

The one thing that I admired the most about Bill was his love of family and did everything he could to keep everyone close such as the big family picnics. He also considered you family even if you left for whatever reason until you crossed him.
The memories that I have the most is the family dinners we had at his home in Richmond, the love and conversations were epic. Love You Always Bill sleep well.

I have fond childhood memories of Uncle Bill especially camping at Westbank, where we water skied and had many movie nights - unfortunately at the time we hated movie night because the movies were usually about us kids - now what I wouldn't give for "movie night".
