Obituary of David Lee Byrum

David (Dave) Lee Byrum was born in Bellingham on December 18th, 1953. He passed away in Bellingham on April 19th, 2018, he was 64 years old. He grew up mostly in Bellingham in a large family. He went to school here and was in the class of '72 Sehome High School. He loved sports, both playing and watching, especially the Seahawks. He also loved to cook and barbecue, especially his barbecue salmon, he had his own barbecue sauce with a secret ingredient, and he thought no one knew what it was. He was commercial fisherman and fished from San Francisco to Dutch Harbor Alaska. He never passed a chance to pass on a story. He started painting when he was seventeen and he painted the name on the Stingray. He did it in Old English script and he was so proud of it. It did look good. Through around 45 years he painted signs that have been seen so many people, through the years his signs include the likes of The Web Locker, Dos Padres, The Fairhaven Pharmacy, MidTown Motors, the stack at Oser Cedar, The Royal Inn, Louis Auto Glass Side Muriel , and many many more. His most seen sign is the Welcome To Bellingham Sign on the Bellingham National Bank Building, I'm not sure what the name of the building id now. His eye for detail showed in his sign, they were great. His proudest achievement is his son Jamie and he being two of David's passions, a professional musician and a professional cook. He passed away peacefully with Jamie beside him playing his guitar quietly. He was preceded by His parents George Byrum Sr. and Violet (Williamson) Halldorson, His brothers Richard, Don, And Kerry.
