
Obituary of Alden Dale Quimby
Alden D. Quimby (age 96) entered into rest surrounded by his family on March 14, 2018 at Whatcom Hospice House. Alden was born in Bellingham on May 14, 1921 to Willard and Della Francis (Hoffman) Quimby. Alden graduated from High school in Bellingham in 1939 and later joined the Army. He served his country from July 7, 1944 until February 22, 1946 achieving the rank of Sergeant. During his military career, he earned the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badge. Following his military service, Alden worked his entire working career as a carpenter retiring in 1988 after 40 years of service.
On May 27, 1988 at Bellingham City Hall, Alden married Carol Anne (Leighton). He is survived by his wife Carol Anne; daughters, Sandi Bechtel of Ferndale, WA and Shannon (John) Gillespie of Snoqualmie, WA; grandchildren, Sheri (Bob) Walczak, Shelly (Dave) Lyon, Terri (Jeff) McConnell and Tamara (E.J) Maloney; ten great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son, Dennis D. Quimby; brothers, Willard, Loren, Phil and Wayne; sisters, Della and Calla.
Alden was very active his entire life and enjoyed hiking, cross-country skiing, snow shoeing and bike riding. He was a very loving person and very outgoing. Alden was very caring of all his family and friends. He was Carol’s very strong and faithful husband for just short of 30 years. Alden taught his family to love and appreciate nature and all its beauty. He will be missed by his immediate family and a multitude of extended family also.
