Karel Stefan passed away peacefully on June 7, 2021 after fighting an 11 year battle with Parkinson's disease. Karel is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lin; sister-in-law, Val; 2 sisters Eva (George) and Jana (Vacek); nieces Petra and Nada, and several grandnephews and nieces. Karel was born in the Czech Republic on April 19, 1944 and immigrated to the US in 1968. He established several of his own businesses over the years, most recently as a general contractor building custom homes in the Bellingham and Mt. Baker areas. Karel was always willing to give a helping hand to his friends and neighbors and served on the Mt. Baker Rim Community Club Board of Directors for a number of years. Getting together with friends and family for outdoor barbeques, fire pit parties and singsongs were just a few of the things he enjoyed. One of Karel’s great joys in life was raising golden retrievers with his wife. Karel was an accomplished outdoorsman with an active spirit. He was a downhill skier, tennis player, rock climber, mushroom hunter, and hiker. He had many wonderful days with friends skiing and hiking at Mt Baker. He and his wife travelled extensively around the world and loved camping in their motorhome in British Columbia, Eastern Washington, Idaho and Montana. Karel will be remembered for his joy of life, friendship, outdoorsmanship, storytelling, stubbornness, and handiness. Karel touched many lives, and will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date pending COVID-19 regulation rollbacks. In Karel's memory, donations to the Parkinson's Foundation or Whatcom Hospice would be appreciated.
