Elizabeth “Joy” English passed away in her home April 19, 2021. She was born in Montana to Walter and Bea Steeves. In 1957 she moved to Ferndale, WA where she married her late husband, Frank English. Joy was a loving, devoted mom to Susan McLen and Danel Eby, the fun grandmother to Frank, Grace and David McLen, older sister to Jean Froehlich and Harry Steeves, and her nieces and nephews still refer to her as their “Favorite Aunt”. Her love was shown by her involvement in the community and endless volunteering. She was active in her churches, United Church of Ferndale and Unity where she was a Youth Leader and an active member of the Women of Unity. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Hemlock Society, Beekeepers Association, Ferndale Senior Center, Campfire Leader, and the Secretary at North Bellingham Grange. She volunteered with Hospice for 30 years, 25 years for the Crisis Line, and many years with the local Food Bank, homeless shelters, and Veteran’s groups. The Whatcom County Humane Society was dear to her heart, and one of her favorite times was fostering kittens. Joy gave more than her time; she donated to as many organizations as possible including a trailer to a homeless family and a car to a Veteran. Joy was always smiling and humming a tune. She loved flowers and gardening, almost as much as she loved dancing. She enjoyed visiting with friends over a cup of coffee or a cold beer, playing cards, watching comedies with a bowl of popcorn, and loving on her cats. A memorial will be planned at a later date, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Whatcom County Humane Society https://www.whatcomhumane.org/ or a charity of your choice.
