William M. Herbert

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bill Herbert in his 86th year.  He passed peacefully with his family by his side in Bellingham, Wa on May 30th, 2018.  Bill was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2006 and battled the disease with optimism and positivity as he did with everything else throughout his life.

Bill was born in Armstrong, B.C. but spent most of his life in Vancouver, B.C. and the last 30 years in Southern California.  He was proceeded in death by his mother Margaret (McMillan) Herbert, dad William Herbert, step-mother Adele (Mottus) Herbert and brother Robert Herbert.  He is survived and will be deeply missed by his family: his best friend and loving wife of 55 years Diane (Dean), three daughters and their partners Susan and Adrian, Barbara and Bill, Krista and Christopher and his son Dean.  His beloved grandchildren Andrea, Brittany, Tenby, Victoria, Tierney, Billie, Sophia and Nathan. He is also survived by three brothers, Ken, Jim and Don; two sisters, Audrey and Marie. Also three step-sisters: Beverly, Marlene and Doris and one step-brother, Marvin.

Bill’s doctrine in life and one he reiterated to his children and grandchildren was:

“If it is to be, it is up to me”

He lived his life by that saying.   He was very successful for over 30 years as a Life Insurance Salesman.  A profession he loved and was proud of! He was very adventurous and Scuba Dived, Sky Dived, owned and flew his own plane.  When he and Diane retired they traveled Canada, US and Mexico in their RV. Also enjoyed cruising and seeing the world. However, his number one love was his family and taking children and grandchildren camping and on trips.  As long as he had family around him he was a very happy man.

An informal Celebration of Life will be held in Richmond, B.C. on Sept. 8th.  Please email Diane for address and time at dibillherb@gmail.com.

Bill has left a lasting impression on all who knew him and he will truly be an absence in all of our lives.  Friends and family are encouraged to share their memories of Bill at https://jernsfuneralchapel.net/.

Special thanks to the EMS, Emergency Team, Dr. Jefferson, nurses and chaplain at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Bellingham.  Also to Bradley Bytnar and Jake Waggoner at Jern’s Funeral Chapel for their assistance.
